National Urban Forum in Georgia, devoted to sustainable urban development and spatial planning, was held from 19 to 21 June, 2024 in Tbilisi, with the participation of a representative of the Agency for Spatial and Urban Planning of the Republic of Serbia (ASUPRS).
The presentation from Serbia emphasised the importance of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) being taken into consideration in the context of development, spatial and urban planning in Serbia at the national and local levels. Monitoring the achievements of planning goals through spatial and urban development indicators contributes to higher-quality preparation and implementation of plans, as well as better alignment of plans across different territorial levels..
The forum included training on the localization of SDGs and, regarding this, workshops on the preparation of Voluntary Local and National Reviews. The first Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Republic of Serbia was prepared in 2019, while the first Voluntary Local Review (VLR) was prepared for the City of Niš in 2024.
The Forum was organized by the Spatial and Urban Development Agency of Georgia (SUDA), the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia (MOESD) and the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat), who had previously participated in the National Urban Forum held in Niš in April 2024.
The National Urban Forum in Serbia in April 2024 and the National Urban Forum in Georgia in June 2024 were preparatory events for the UN member states ahead of the World Urban Forum held in the capital of Egypt in November 2024.
